Chapter 05: Huỳnh Thị Mỹ Duyên – Vĩnh Long Province

After losing her father to illness at an early age, Mỹ Duyên’s mother has single-handedly carried the burden of raising both her children. The dreams of Mỹ Duyên, her older brother (currently a second-year student at Vinh Long University of Technology Education), and their mother are all tied to a humble yet meaningful craft-the making of bánh lá dừa (palm leaf-wrapped cakes).

When asked about her dream, Mỹ Duyên shared:
“Biotechnology at Can Tho University is the field I’m most passionate about. But due to my family’s financial situation, I’m considering pursuing a degree in education to reduce tuition costs for my mother. If accepted, I’ll study and work at the same time, doing my best to earn a university degree.”

Despite being over 50 and suffering from a heart condition, Mỹ Duyên’s mother remains the family’s pillar of strength. Every day, she wakes up at 3 a.m. to go to the market, buying cakes to resell in the neighborhood and continuing to make bánh lá dừa at home to support her children’s education.

To support Mỹ Duyên on her journey to pursue her dream, the “My Dream – Phú Nông – Creating a Difference” scholarship awarded her a main scholarship worth 10,000,000 VND, along with two additional scholarships sponsored by accompanying brands:

Trobinplus 400SC – specialized in treating rice leaf and panicle blast

AntiOne 200SC – effective against bacterial leaf blight in rice

Each of these brand scholarships is valued at 2,000,000 VND.

In addition, the program also awarded 08 supplementary scholarships to diligent students at the school, each worth 1,000,000 VND, as a way to encourage and nurture the learning spirit of local youth.

General Information about the “My Dream – Phú Nông – Making a Difference” Scholarship:
1. Broadcast Schedule:
6:00 PM, every fourth Monday of the month on Hậu Giang Radio and Television, as well as on the digital platforms of the station and Phú Nông Co., Ltd.
2. Scholarship Coverage:
Implemented across 13 provinces in the Mekong Delta region.
3. Scholarship Criteria:
Main recipient: High school students (with priority given to 12th graders).
Requirements: From poor or near-poor households, good family ethics, strong personal determination to pursue education. Academic performance should preferably be at a “good” or “very good” level.
Supplementary scholarships: For students in difficult circumstances selected by the school.
